We will have more trading partners and it seems each partner uses different versions.  How do you find out the differences?   Are there any good resource sites?
Thank you,

Good Evening Hatsumi-

That is a great question.  The difference between EDI versions such as 4010 and 4030 are minor version changes to the specifications. Let's say you have working translation for some messages for release 4010. If you want to upgrade to 4030 you will notice only a few changes between the version specifications; and if you want to upgrade to a release 5010 you might need to make a lot of modifications to current translation.

What has changed between certain versions will be unique to certain trading partners. I will include a site below that may be useful to you but besides that each trading partner may send a different version but for the most part there are not a great variety of version types

What Is EDI?

I hope this helps and please let me know if I can be of anymore assistance.

Hello Max,
Thank you for the information and I will look at the site you suggested.

Also I found the CMS.gov site has good information on between V4010 and V5010 which mainly improved HIPPA related documents.

https://www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/HIPAA-Administrative-Simplification/Versions5010andD0/V...

Will share if any other useful links found.

Thank you again!

Hi Hatsumi,

I word of caution concerning the CMS link.  CMS and the Health Care industry use very detailed implementation guides, currently referred to as a TR3 which means Technical Report Type 3.  The government, CMS, mandates the use of these TR3 documents for 10 health care related process such as claims, eligibility, payments, etc. The TR3 documents contain a change log for each version.  The current version is 5010 with Errata.  As of my latest information, the next version planned to be adopted by CMS is 7030.

Regards, Ken

Hello Ken,
Thank you for your comment and concerns.  Although we are not in the healthcare industry, it is all good to know.
Do you know what is the major (if any) changes/improvements on V6xxx from V5xxx?

Regards,
Hatsumi

Hi Hatsumi,

Each of the 10 TR3 documents had multiple changes so, there's to much to include in a note.  As you may imagine, the health care industry is very active and business needs are changing which impacts the TR3.  Also, the changes are more than from 5010 to 60nn because CMS with guidance from the health care industry is going to the 7030 version.  So, the health care implementers have a lot of work in the near future.
