1. Can you explain in detail what the different options are that we have for ASN and when it's appropriate to use which one:
Advance Ship Notice
Advance Ship Notice ADSD
Advance Ship Notice Random Weight
Pallet Advance Ship Notice
Small Package Carrier Shipment

2. What is the SCAC code if Target will be picking up the orders using their own carrier?

3. What should we enter for the Description Code?

4. What does the Buying Part/Marked for section mean and what ID Code would we select and what Location #?

Katie, great question!

Hopefully the below information will help you decide which ASN to use.

1. Advance Ship Notice: This option is for sending loose cartons without a pallet or a master carton.
2. Advance Ship Notice ADSD: This is for "Direct to Store Delivery"
3. Advance Ship Notice Random Weight: This ASN has a required field under Item Info where you put in the "Actual Net Weight" of an item.
4. Pallet Advance Ship Notice: This is used when a pallet is utilized and you need a pallet label.
5. Small Package Carrier Shipment: This option includes a Tare level to include a Master Carton. If the master carton is not applicable to you, then you should not use this option.

SCAC Code: Every carrier has their own unique 4 digit code. With there being so many, we do not keep these on file. Generally it is a good idea to contact the carrier for this code, but in this case it is TGAF for Target Logistics.

Description Code: This is a code from an industry specific code list which provides data about a product characteristic. In this case, Target would like to know if this product complies with the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Buying Part/Marked For: This is a code identifying an organizational entity, a physical location, property or an individual. If you are shipping to a distribution center or warehouse you would select buying party. If are sending to the specific store or direct to consumer, you would select marked for.

Furthermore, When you actually add the items to the ASN the location number should source in as this information comes from the purchase order.

Here is some additional SCAC Code information:

When in a Consolidation zone, the Consolidator's SCAC is required.
Southeast Consolidators=SOCS,
National Retail Center=NART,
United Warehouse=UWDC

Ryan thank you for your help. I have another question. In the Pallet Advance Ship Notice for Target in the Order tab >Pallet Info>Pack Info there's a field called 'Type' and it's asking for the UPC Selling Code. As advised by our SPS Rep (who is out of office today) I am trying to enter the first 8 digits of our UPC code but it's asking for at least 12. I'm trying to make a default for this field but it won't let me. What is the appropriate thing to enter here?

Katie,

A UPC code is a 12 digit number that can be found on your purchase orders. Additionally, you will most likely not want to set the UPC as a default as this is a field that will change depending on what the item is.

For more information regarding this inquiry, I would strongly recommend reaching out to our support team at 888-739-3232 option 1,1.

hi SPS team,
We are trying to enter a Pallet ASN for Target and have casepacks of unique items going on a pallet.
What do we enter in the I 2of5/UPC Selling Code field when each pallet is made of different case packs?
Please let us know asap.
