Quickbooks Adapter Pulls Inactive Items

When changing item lookups from one product to another it appears that the adapter will continue to match the old item (even when made inactive in Quickbooks) if there is still data in the cross reference table. The item isn't visible in the Item Lookup tab because it has been made inactive but orders are still imported and include the old item on sales order.

Is there a reason why the adapter wouldn't ignore inactive Quickbooks items and simply match the active item with the appropriate cross reference info for that trading partner? It is counter intuitive that an item you can't see that has effectively been disabled for the business is being priority matched above an active item with appropriately matching item lookup info.
