I currently use a Zebra S4M direct thermal printer for printing shipping labels through SPS Webforms.  The barcodes for 2 of our partners, Tracker Marine and Gander Mountain, do not print properly.  They seem to print too "tall".  The barcode overlaps the text above it.  The label looks fine on the print screen, but doesn't actually print out properly.  I do not have this issue with the shipping labels of any of our other 10 partners and I use the same printer and labels for all.  Any suggestions?

Hi Clare,

Thank you for your post!  I have seen issues similar to above and it has always been related to margins.  Do mind trying (or confirming) a couple things below?

1. You will want to make sure 4x6 is the preferred print type within WebForms.  To do this, you will want to click Preferences on the left side.  Once the screen opens, You will see Label Paper Size.  Ensure this is set to 4x6.

2. Ensure the Zebra printer is set as the default printer on the computer.  This is important as the current default printer's settings can sometimes override what is selected within your browser.  To to this, you will want to go to Devices and Printers on your computer.

3. From within the Devices and Printers screen, you will also want to ensure that the margins are correct for the printer you are using.

After performing these steps, please try printing once more.  Please let me know if this resolves the issue or if we will need to further troubleshoot.  I realize that getting the labels on the box is a high priority, so if this does not work and you need immediate assistance, please call 1-888-739-3232, option 1 and any analyst will be able to further troubleshoot in a timely manner.

Thanks Clare,

Jordan

Yes, my preferred print is already set to 4x6 in Webforms.
Printer margins look to be accurate... size 4x6, unprintable area 0.
I have changed my default printer to this label printer, but it doesn't seem to correct the issue.

As I mentioned, Tracker and Gander labels are the only ones out of 10 different accounts that print this way.  I've even had my printer tech in here to look at it and we can't figure out why it is not aligning the barcodes correctly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi Clare,

Wow, it sounds like you did your homework!  I printed labels for both Trading Partners from your account today (to PDF) without trouble.  On Monday, I can print via a Zebra printer in the office.  If you need this resolved prior to Monday, please contact our Support Team.  Otherwise - I will see what we can do Monday and have an analyst reach out if we are not able to resolve via this forum.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Good morning Clare,

I was able to print the labels correctly via our Zebra printer this morning.  Also, to touch on why this is happening to certain trading partners and not others: each trading partner determines their font, size, location of information, etc.  It is likely that these labels push the borders more than others.

I worked with a technical specialist today and was advised that it would be helpful if you are able to print to PDF.  This would verify whether it is an issue with the specific printer margins or the forms form your account.  Here in the office, we use Cute PDF as our PDF printer.  If you do download it, you will want to download the CutePDF Writer.  Once downloaded, it will appear as a printer from your printer options.

All this being said, it may be easiest to work with an analyst as we have the ability to remote in to your computer (with your approval) and look at the settings.  The phone number is below, I can tell you that the phone line has been quiet this morning with no wait currently.

1-888-739-3232, option 1, 1.  Feel free to reference this post so that the analyst has some background.

I am sorry I don't have further steps here, unusual printing habits can be tough to tackle via the community.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments, I am more than happy to assist where I can!

As a follow-up, the chat function in the upper right of your screen (within the Support Center) will connect you with an analyst as well. Whichever connection method you prefer :)

I saved the label to a pdf file using PDF Creator.  Although it looks correct in the PDF file, it still prints out with the barcode overlapping the numbers.  I will get with the analyst shortly.

Another side note...  I also have a thermal transfer printer that is currently having maintenance issues, so is unusable at this time.  However, in the past, I have printed the Tracker and Gander labels to this printer and the barcodes printed out properly aligned.  So this issue is just with my direct thermal printer.  Unfortunately, it is the only label printer I currently have in working condition.

Thank you!

Interesting, how strange!  Given it printed correctly via the PDF Creator as well as on your other thermal printer, I have got to believe there is a setting that, with adjustment, will do the trick.

Have a great day and I will follow-up via this post if any is needed after you have connected with an analyst.

It did not actually print correctly using PDF Creator.  It looks correct when you view the PDF file on screen, but it doesn't actually physically print correctly.  But yes, it does print correctly using the thermal transfer printer.  I will get with the analyst tomorrow.  Thanks again!

Definitely, that makes sense.  That leads me to further believe it is a setting within the Zebra printer as PDF Creator was seemingly correct.  I will keep an eye on your account and hopefully an analyst is able to troubleshoot that printer - seems like a stickler.

Thank you for the additional details!
