I am currently working with 850 PO document,

I would like to know what is the difference between elements "LineItems" and "sublines",

The description of both these elements are exactly the similar if not same
what is the need for both these elements on the 850?
Should i use both?

Hi Prem!

I think of sublines as a good example of the "don't repeat yourself" principle in action. You'll see sublines used when a lot of attributes would otherwise be repeated line after line. You can think of sublines as having all of the characteristics of the enclosing line, with a few changes. Don't repeat yourself (DIY) is great for expressing something very clearly and concisely in any environment, but the principle was especially important back in the day when VANs charged big bucks for every piece of text a partner communicated to their partner.

Hope my post helps you out!

Thanks for the response Luke.
So, since some of the information in the sublines can change/differ to LineItems, I would have to monitor both the "LineItems" and "sublines", right?

You've got it! You'll miss some of the message's meaning if you don't interpret info at both levels.
